Investing.com – Italy stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as in the sectors led shares .

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com Italy 40 were Saipem SpA (BIT:SPMI), which rose 6.10% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.66 at the close. Meanwhile, ERG (BIT:ERG) added 3.51% or 0.69 points to end at 20.34 and Eni SpA (BIT:ENI) was up 2.84% or 0.37 points to 13.46 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bper Banca SpA (BIT:EMII), which fell 2.90% or 0.18 points to trade at 5.96 at the close. Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (BIT:BMPS) declined 1.41% or 0.10 points to end at 6.71 and Banca Popolare di Sondrio ScpA (BIT:BPSI) was down 1.35% or 0.11 points to 8.03.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Milan Stock Exchange by 369 to 166 and 40 ended unchanged.

Shares in Saipem SpA (BIT:SPMI) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.10% or 0.15 to 2.66.

Crude oil for February delivery was up 2.57% or 1.84 to $73.56 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 2.26% or 1.69 to hit $76.33 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 1.18% or 31.26 to trade at $2,672.26 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was down 0.88% to 1.03, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.25% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.77% at 109.13.
